1         Timing System Setup

1.1        Move all equipment from the office to the pool deck.

·         System 5 Sports Timer & Power Adapter Case

·         Electronic Start System & Tripod

·         Cable Harness

·         Printer & Paper

·         Power Strip & Extension

1.2        Power Strip and Extension

·         Connect the power strip to the extension.

Note: Make sure the power strip and extension connectors are off the pool deck before connecting the extension to the power receptacle.

·         Connect the extension to the power receptacle.

·         Turn power strip on (switch light lit). If switch light is not lit then check connections.

·         Turn power strip off (switch light not lit).

1.3        System 5 Sports Timer

·         Remove the timer and power adapter from the case and place on the left side of the table.

·         Connect the power adapter to the power strip.

·         Connect the power adapter cable to the timer (EXTERNAL POWER).

1.4        Printer

·         Connect the power cord to the power strip.

·         Connect the printer interface cable to the timer (PRINTER PORT) and secure.

·         Feed the paper into the printer and align.

1.5        Scoreboard

·         Route the scoreboard cable and connect to the timer (SCBD).

1.6        Cable Harness

Note: Do not plug the cable harness into the timer until the cable is completely routed.

·         One end of the cable harness has a large connector that plugs into the timer. Beginning with this end of the cable harness, route the cable from the timer, under the diving platform, to lane 1. Continue routing the cable harness such that the cable runs behind the starting blocks, making sure the cable harness connector blocks for each lane are positioned near the base of the respective starting block.

·         Connect the cable harness to the timer (PRIMARY INPUT) after the cable harness is in place.

1.7        Electronic Start System

·         Position the start system on either side of the pool.

·         Connect the start system to the Start position of the cable harness connector block.

·         Switch power on.

1.8        Touchpad Anchors

·         Remove the touchpad anchors (Plexiglas strips with suction cups) from the storage chest.

·         Dip touchpad anchors and suction cups into the water and make sure that four to six suction cups are attached to the underside (side opposite Velcro strip) of each anchor.

·         Center the touchpad anchors on each lane line and align the Velcro edge of the anchor at the edge of the pool, making sure the edge of the anchor does not extend beyond the edge of the pool. Press the touchpad anchors into place making sure the suction pads on the underside of the anchors adheres to the pool deck surface.

·         Two additional touchpad anchors are required, one each for lanes one and six.  Align the Velcro edge of the touchpad anchor at the edge of the pool, making sure the edges of the anchor do not extend beyond the edge or the side of the pool.  Press the touchpad anchors into place making sure the suction pads on the underside of the anchors adheres to the pool deck surface.

1.9        Touchpads

Note: Always have two people handle the touchpads in order to avoid stress fractures that eventually damage the pads.

·         Remove the touchpads from the storage chest.

·         Place the touchpads in the water and in the center of the lane.  Make sure the touchpads are completely against the pool wall before lowering the pads onto the touchpad anchors.

·         Press the touchpads firmly into place on the Velcro strip on the touchpad anchors.

·         Connect the touchpads to the Prime position of the cable harness connector blocks.

1.10    Timing Buttons

·         Remove the timing buttons from the storage chest.

·         Connect the timing buttons to the Button position of the cable harness connector blocks.

1.11    Power up the system.

·         Turn the power strip on (switch light on).

·         Turn the printer power on.

·         Turn the timer power on.  Timer performs a self-test, which usually takes a couple minutes.

·         Sports Menu is displayed after self-tests are complete.

·         Press the SWIMMING/DIVING softkey from the Sports Menu.

Note: Do not enter SETUPS until step 1.12 is complete.

1.12    Check that the timing system is functioning properly.

Note: Do not enter SETUPS before completing this step.

·         Initiate a start from the start system. Verify that the strobe light and start horn function properly.

·         Verify that the scoreboard is functioning properly – displaying elapsed time.

·         Verify that the timer is functioning properly – displaying elapsed time and arming the touchpads.

Note: The touchpads are armed approximately three seconds after the start.

·         For each lane, press the button and then press the touchpad.  Make sure that the scoreboard acknowledges the touch before moving onto the next lane.

·         Verify that the timer has acknowledged the touch for all lanes.

·         Reset the timer. Press the RESET key (requires two fingers positioned on the two dots on the RESET key). Verify that the timer is reset.

2         Timing System Operation

2.1        Setup the System 5 Sports Timer for a specific meet.

·         Prepare the timing system for operation in accordance with the steps in section 1.

·         Press the SETUPS softkey.

·         Using the UP/DOWN softkeys move the Setups Menu cursor to EVENT SEQUENCE.

·         Using the numeric keypad press the single digit number for the desired meet type.  Typical selections are:

2         BOYS HIGH SCHOOL

3         GIRLS HIGH SCHOOL

8         TOWN TEAM

·        Press the QUIT softkey.

·        Verify that EVENT is 1, HEAT is 1 and that the proper event title is displayed.

2.2        Operations prior to the start of the event/heat.

·         Verify that the proper event, heat and title are displayed. (Refer to step 2.4 for selecting the proper event and heat.)

·         Verify that the timer is reset. (Refer to step 2.4 for resetting the timer.)

·         Town Team 25-Yard Events: Turn all lanes off for these events.

2.3        Operations following the start of the event/heat.

·         Town Team 25-Yard Events: Ignore this step and continue to step 2.4.

·         Using the LANE ON/OFF keys, turn the lanes on/off according to whether a swimmer is in a lane or not.

Monitor the race to make sure the timer is recording proper touches.

·         Relay Events: If a swimmer does not exit the water before the touchpad is armed the timer will record an improper touch.  Press the –TOUCH key, then using the numeric keypad select the lane number and press ENTER.

·         100/200/500 Yard Events: If a touchpad fails to record a touch by the swimmer, press the +TOUCH key, then using the numeric keypad select the lane number and press ENTER.

2.4        Operations following the finish of the event/heat.

·         Verify that all swimmers have finished the event/heat.

·         Town Team 25-Yard Events: Skip to “Reset Timer” bullet.

·         Press the STORE PRINT key.

Verify that the printer is printing the race results and that the printer paper is feeding properly and is not jammed.  If the printer does nothing, turn the printer power off, wait a couple seconds and turn the printer power on. Printer should then print the results.

·         Reset Timer

Press the RESET key (requires two fingers positioned on the two dots on the RESET key). Verify that the timer is reset.

·         Select Next Event or Next Heat

Press the NEXT HEAT key if the next race is for the same event, or press the NEXT EVENT key if the next race is a new event. Verify that the proper event, heat and title are displayed. If the proper event and heat is not displayed press the EDIT EVENT HEAT key, then using the numeric keypad select the proper event number and press ENTER, then select the proper heat number and press ENTER.


3         Timing System Breakdown

3.1        Power down the system and disconnect the cables.

·         Turn the printer power off.

·         Turn the timer power off.

·         Turn the power strip off (switch light off).

·         Disconnect the extension from the power receptacle.

·         Disconnect the power strip from the extension.

·         Disconnect the power adapter cable from the timer and the power strip.

·         Disconnect the cable harness from the timer.

·         Disconnect the printer interface cable from the timer.

·         Disconnect the scoreboard from the timer.

3.2        Timing System

·         Coil the power adapter cable and place in case.

·         Place the timer in the case, console up.

·         Case should close completely without applying force.  Latch shut.

3.3        Printer

·         Remove the paper from the printer.

3.4        Scoreboard

·         Coil up the cable and secure to ramp railing.

3.5        Start System

·         Turn the power off.

·         Disconnect the start system from the cable harness.

Note: Firmly grasp the plug to disconnect, do not pull on cable.

·         Thoroughly rinse the plug in fresh water. Remove excess water from the plug.

·         Coil up the cables.

3.6        Touchpads

Note: Always have two people handle the touchpads in order to avoid stress fractures that eventually damage the pads.

·         Disconnect the touchpads from the cable harness.

Note: Firmly grasp the plug to disconnect, do not pull on cable.

·         Thoroughly rinse the touchpads and plugs with fresh water. Remove excess water from the touchpads and plugs.

·         Carefully place the touchpads in the storage chest.

Notes: Do not lower the touchpads by the cable into the storage chest.  Do not drop the touchpads into the storage chest.

·         Make sure the touchpads rest firmly on the horizontal supports and that the ends of the touchpads are not elevated in any way.

3.7        Touchpad Anchors

·         Thoroughly rinse the touchpad anchors with fresh water.  Remove excess water from the touchpad anchors.

·         Place touchpad anchors in the storage chest.

3.8        Buttons

·         Disconnect the buttons from the cable harness.

Note: Firmly grasp the plug to disconnect, do not pull on cable.

·         Thoroughly rinse the plugs in fresh water. Remove excess water from the plugs.

·         Place the buttons in the storage chest.

3.9        Cable Harness

·         Remove excess pool water from the connector blocks.

·         Thoroughly rinse the connector blocks in fresh water. Remove excess water from the connector blocks.

·         Coil up the cable harness.

3.10    Move all equipment from the pool deck to the office.

·         System 5 Sports Timer & Power Adapter Case

·         Electronic Start System & Tripod

·         Cable Harness

·         Printer & Paper

·         Power Strip & Extension
